Species

Characteristics

Perennial herb or shrublet, stems many from the base, up to c. 300 mm long, 2 mm in diam., profusely branched, branches probably ± sprawling, often tangled, very weakly ridged from leaf bases and the midrib to the node below, sparse glandular hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long nearly confined to narrow bands from the leaf bases down to the node below but inflorescence axes glandular-puberulous all round, stems leafy, brachyblasts wanting. Leaves opposite, sometimes alternate on the inflorescence, largest leaves 10-20 x 3-9 mm, oblanceolate, apex subacute, base narrowed to a short petiolar part then abruptly expanded and half-clasping, margins weakly revolute, 1-3 pairs of prominent teeth or smallest leaves subentire, both surfaces with scattered glandular hairs up to 0.2 mm long or nearly glabrous, lower surface gland-dotted. Flowers in c. 4-20-flowered lax racemes very loosely panicled, solitary in axils of uppermost leaves, these rapidly smaller upwards. Pedicels up to 5-15 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 0.5-0.7 mm long, lobes c. 2.5-3 x 0.4-0.5 mm, glandular-puberulous with coarser glandular hairs as well up to 0.2-0.5 mm long. Corolla tube c. 8.5-11.5 x 2.5-3 mm in throat, narrowly funnel-shaped, limb almost regular, c. 9-10 mm across, posticous lobes 3-3.8 x 1.8-2.1 mm, anticous lobe 3.7-4.1 x 1.8-2.4 mm, all oblong, white or pale mauve, throat yellow, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to c. 0.15 mm long, scattered glistening glands as well, either glabrous inside or weakly bearded. Stamens 4, anticous pair shortly exserted, filaments 1.5-2 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments 0.8-1.3 mm long, anthers 0.7-1 mm long. Stigma 1-1.2 mm long, exserted. Style c. 7-11 mm long. Ovary c. 1 x 0.8 mm, glabrous or with a few glistening glands on the sutures. Capsules c. 3.5-4 x 2-2.5 mm. Seeds c. 0.7-0.8 x 0.3 mm, pallid. The plants were collected in full flower in May, August and September.
