Characteristics

Small shrub, probably between c. 300 and 800 mm tall, branches erect or decumbent, narrowly winged, glandular-puberulous, glabrescent, leaving scattered ± scabrid projections up to c. 0.2 mm long, leafy throughout, brachyblasts present. Leaves opposite, largest primary leaves c. 25-27 x 2.2-6 mm, those subtending flowers c. 5-25 x 1-4 mm, all linear to narrowly elliptic, ± obtuse, base narrowed then abruptly expanded and decurrent in a narrow wing, margins plane or revolute (leaves then appearing narrower than they really are), entire or rarely with a pair of minute teeth, hairy as the stems. Flowers opposite becoming alternate upwards, solitary in the leaf-axils forming long terminal racemes. Pedicels (lowermost) 11-21 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.8-1 mm long, posticous lobes 4-4.5 x 0.6-0.9 mm, anticous slightly broader, glandular-puberulous with scattered coarser glandular hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long. Corolla tube 8-11 x 4-5 mm in throat, funnel-shaped, limb nearly regular, 12-15 mm across, posticous lobes 4-5 x 3-5 mm, anticous lobe 4-6 x 3.3-5 mm, all broadly elliptic, mauve, tube yellow, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to 0.2 mm long, 5 longitudinal bands of clavate hairs inside. Stamens 4, anthers 1-1.3 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments 2-2.5 mm long, anticous pair exserted, filaments 3.2-4 mm long. Stigma 1.8-2.5 mm long, exserted. Style 6-9 mm long. Ovary 1.7-2 x 1.2-1.3 mm. Capsules (few seen) 5 x 2.5 mm. Seeds c. 0.1 x 0.3 mm, pallid.
