Characteristics

Twiggy shrublet c. 200-450 mm tall, main branches up to c. 7 mm diam., erect, decumbent or ascending, all parts glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.5-0.8 mm (0.2-0.8 mm) long, leafy. Leaves opposite, largest blades c. 5-12 x 5-9 mm (7-16 x 3.5-9 mm) suborbicular to broadly elliptic abruptly contracted or tapering to a broad petiolar part c. 3-5 mm long (roughly 1/3 to 1/2 as long as blade), apex rounded to subacute, margins often serrulate, sometimes obscurely few-toothed, repand or entire (up to 5 pairs of coarse teeth or obscurely toothed to entire), often slightly revolute, both surfaces glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.3-0.4 mm long (as on stem). Flowers solitary in axils of uppermost leaves, panicled. Pedicels (lowermost) 4-10 mm long (6-15 mm). Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.7-1.4 mm long (0.7-1 mm), lobes 2.84 x 0.8-1 mm (2.4-4.8 x 0.5-0.9 mm) glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.5-0.8 mm long (0.2-0.8 mm). Corolla tube 5.5-7.5 x 4-4.2 mm in throat (4.5-9.5 x 3-5.5 mm), broadly funnel-shaped, limb almost regular, 10-11 mm across (8-15 mm), posticous lobes 3.5-4 x 3-3.5 mm (2-4.5 x 1.7-5 mm), anticous lobe 3.5-5 x 3.3-5 mm (2.5-6 x 2.2-4.3 mm), all oblong-orbicular, mauve, tube yellow, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to 0.2-0.25 mm long, either glabrous inside or with 1-3 weak longitudinal bands of clavate hairs (strongly to weakly bearded). Stamens 4, all exserted, anthers 1.3-1.4 mm long (1-1.7 mm), posticous filaments 2.5-3.5 mm long (1.2-2.8 mm), anticous ones 3.8-4.5 mm (3-4 mm). Stigma 2-3 mm long, exserted. Style 3.5-6 mm (3.6-6.8 mm). Ovary 1.4-1.5 x 1 mm (1-1.4 x 0.8-1 mm), a few glistening glands on sutures (or glabrous). Capsules c. 4 x 3 mm. Seeds c. 0.7 x 0.3 mm, amber-coloured (pallid). Flowering principally between March and September.
