Characteristics

Perennial herb or shrublet, basal parts not seen, stems c. 100-250 mm long, c. 1-2 mm in diam., erect, decumbent or ascending, either simple or loosely branched, narrowly winged by decurrent leaf bases, glandular-pubescent with hairs c. 0.2-0.3 mm long confined to the groove between the pairs of wings, inflorescence axes glandular-puberulous all over, stems leafy, axillary leaf tufts either wanting or very small. Leaves opposite, sometimes becoming alternate upwards, largest leaves c. 7-15 x 1-2 mm, linear to oblanceolate, uppermost sometimes lanceolate, apex obtuse, base not narrowed, half-clasping, closely approaching opposite leaf then decurrent to node below forming a narrow groove, margins mostly strongly revolute (contributing to narrowness of leaves), entire or with 1-2 pairs of teeth near apex, either glabrous or with a few scattered hairs up to c. 0.25 mm long, scattered glistening glands on lower surface. Flowers in terminal racemes (up to c. 20 flowers) often loosely panicled. Bracts (lowermost) c. 2.5-10 x 1-3 mm, lanceolate, leaf-like. Pedicels (lowermost) up to c. 30 mm long, but often only c. 2-15 mm. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 0.7-1 mm long, posticous lobes c. 3.5-4.3 x 0.7-0.8 mm, anticous lobes slightly broader, minutely glandular-puberulous, thickly beset with much coarser hairs as well, these c. 0.4-0.6 mm long. Corolla tube c. 6-8 x 5-6 mm in throat, broadly funnel-shaped, limb almost regular, c. 11-16 mm across, posticous lobes c. 4.5-6 x 3.3-5 mm, anticous lobe c. 4.5-6 x 3.3-5.2 mm, all oblong-orbicular, mauve, throat yellow, glandular-puberulous outside, a few glistening glands as well, clavate hairs inside in 5 longitudinal bands. Stamens 4, all exserted, anticous filaments 3-4.2 mm long, posticous filaments 1.8-2.2 mm, anthers 1-1.1 mm. Stigma c. 3-4 mm long, exserted. Style 4-5.2 mm long. Ovary c. 1.2 x 1 mm, a few glistening glands on sutures. Capsules 3-5 x 2-3 mm. Seeds c. 0.7-0.8 x 0.3-0.4 mm, pallid.
