Characteristics

Herbaceous, possibly annual, sparingly branched from base, stems c. 200-350 mm long, terete, weak, glandular-puberulous, the hairs longest on lower part of stem (up to c. 0.4-0.6 mm), distantly leafy. Leaves opposite, largest c. 20-30 x 10-20 mm, ovate, apex obtuse to subacute, base cuneate and tapering into a short petiolar part (c. 5-8 mm) then abruptly expanded and connate, margins with 5-6 pairs of obscure to coarse and irregular teeth, both surfaces glandular-puberulous, some longer hairs particularly on lower margins, these up to 0.6 mm. Flowers in terminal racemes sometimes with 1 or 2 branches at base, the lowermost flowers occasionally in the axils of the uppermost leaves, usually opposite, rarely some ternate. Bracts (lowermost) c. 4-7 x 2-5 mm, leaf-like (largest leaf subtending a flower c. 21 x 14 mm). Pedicels (lowermost) 12-30 mm long, glandular-puberulous. Calyx bilabiate, tube c. 1 mm long, posticous lobes c. 4 x 0.8 mm, anticous lobes slightly broader, glandular-puberulous, occasional longer hairs c. 0.2-0.25 mm. Corolla tube c. 8-9.5 x 3 mm in throat, narrowly funnel-shaped, limb c. 8.5 mm across, posticous lobes c. 2.5-2.8 x 2 mm, anticous lobe c. 2.5-3 x 2 mm, all oblong-elliptic, possibly white, tube yellow, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to c. 0.15-2 mm, glabrous inside. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, filaments 2-2.3 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments 1-1.5 mm long, anthers c. 1.1-1.2 mm long. Stigma 1 mm long, exserted. Style c. 5.5-6.2 mm long. Ovary c. 1.5-1.8 x 1 mm, a few glistening glands on sutures. Capsules 4.5-6 x 3 mm. Seeds c. 0.7 x 0.4 mm, pallid.
