Characteristics

Perennial herb, stems several tufted from the base, c. 150 to at least 350 mm long, simple or very laxly branched, branches up to 1.5 mm diam., sharply ascending, very weakly ribbed, glandular-pubescent with delicate hairs up to c. 1.2-1.5 mm long, leafy, without brachyblasts. Leaves opposite or occasionally alternate upwards, largest c. 10-17 x 3-8 mm, smaller upwards, thin-textured, lanceolate, apex obtuse, base broad or narrowed, half-clasping, margins usually entire, rarely with 1 or 2 very obscure teeth, decurrent in very narrow ridges running to node below, both surfaces glandular-pubescent as stems. Flowers solitary in upper leaf axils forming leafy racemes or narrow panicles. Pedicels: lower on main racemes c. 12-15 mm, on branches of panicles c. 5-9 mm. Calyx distinctly bilabiate, tube 0.7-1.2 mm long, posticous lobes c. 3.5-5 x 0.7-0.9 mm, anticous lobes broader (0.9-1.3 mm), glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.3-1 mm long. Corolla tube c. 8-10 x 4 mm across throat, funnel-shaped, limb nearly regular, c. 10 mm across, posticous lobes c. 3.5 x 2.5-3 mm, anticous lobe c. 3.5-4 x 3-3.5 mm, all suborbicular to broadly elliptic, pale mauve, throat yellow/orange, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to c. 0.2 mm long, inside either very weakly bearded with longitudinal bands of clavate hairs or glabrous. Stamens 4, anthers 0.7-1 mm long, anticous pair very shortly exserted, filaments 2-2.5 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments c. 0.8-1 mm long. Stigma shortly exserted, in the type specimen c. 0.8 mm long with 2 tiny arms c. 0.25 mm long, in the other specimens c. 3.8-4.2 mm long, normal. Style c. 3.3-7 mm long. Ovary c. 1.2-1.5 x 0.8-0.9 mm, a few glistening glands on sutures. Capsules c. 3-4 x 2 mm. Seeds (immature) c. 0.8 x 0.4 mm, pallid.
