Characteristics

Twiggy gnarled shrublet up to c. 200 mm tall, main branches up to c. 6 mm in diam., bark pale, twigs terete, glandular-puberulous, hairs c. 0.1-0.3 mm long, closely leafy. Leaves opposite, largest c. 6-10 x 3-5.5 mm, ± oblanceolate, narrowed to a short petiolar part, base abruptly expanded, half-clasping, connate, apex subacute, margins weakly revolute, usually with 1-3 pairs of teeth, occasionally entire, both surfaces glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.3 mm long. Flowers 2-6 in terminal racemes sometimes overtopped by new growth, panicled by the close branching of the stems. Bracts (lowermost) c. 2.5-5 x 1-3 mm, leaflike. Pedicels (lowermost) c. 3-7 mm long. Calyx bilabiate, tube 0.7-1 mm long, posticous lobes 2.5-3.1 x 0.8 mm, anticous lobes slightly broader, minutely glandular-puberulous with scattered coarse hairs as well up to c. 0.4-0.5 mm long. Corolla tube c. 7-10 x 3 mm in throat, narrowly funnel-shaped, limb almost regular, c. 9-11 mm across, posticous lobes c. 3-3.5 x 2.5 mm, anticous lobe 3.5-4 x 2.3-2.8 mm, all oblong-elliptic, white to pale pink or mauve (probably changing colour as the flower ages), throat yellow/orange, glandular-pubescent outside, hairs c. 0.25 mm long, clavate hairs inside throat arranged in 5 longitudinal bands. Stamens 4, anticous pair shortly exserted, filaments 2-2.5 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments 1.2-1.3 mm long, anthers 0.8-1.2 mm long. Stigma c. 0.5-0.8 mm long, exserted. Style 6.5-9 mm long. Ovary 1-1.5 x 0.8-1 mm, glabrous. Capsule (only 1 seen) 4.5 x 2.8 mm. Seeds shed. The type material was in full bloom in mid-October.
