Shrub or small tree 1.8–9 m. tall, with slender branched glabrous stems.. Leaf-blades oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, 3.5–18 cm. long, 1.2–5.5 cm. wide, narrowly acuminate at the apex, narrowly cuneate at the base, thin, glabrous, the lateral nerves prominent in the dried state beneath; petiole 0.2–3.5 cm. long; stipules joined to form a sheath, at least when young, hairy within, only very bluntly triangular, 3–4 mm. long, 3–5 mm. wide, persistent and eventually becoming yellowish and corky.. Flowers in branched glabrous panicles; peduncles 2–6 cm. long, mostly ± white; secondary peduncles 0.5–2.5 cm. long, similar; ultimate components of the inflorescence compact, 20–30-flowered; pedicels obsolete or very short, white.. Calyx-tube ovoid, 0.8–1 mm. long, glabrous; limb-tube 0.2–0.3 mm. long, truncate or with mostly minute triangular teeth 0.25–0.5 mm. long.. Buds very slightly horned but not winged.. Corolla white; tube narrowly infundibuliform, 5–6 mm. long; lobes oblong-elliptic, 4.5 mm. long, 1.2 mm. wide.. Filaments 4 mm. long, exserted 2.8 mm., the anther-bases 1.2 mm. above the throat and tips almost exceeding the corolla-lobes in short-styled flowers or anthers only 1/2-exserted, the anther tips just exserted in long-styled flowers.. Style 2.5–4.5 mm. long, with stigma-lobes 0.8–2 mm. long, in short-styled flowers, 6 mm. long in long-styled flowers.. Fruits black, ellipsoid, 4.5–6.5 mm. long, 3.5–4.5 mm. wide, the fruiting pedicels up to 0.5 mm. long, with a median groove between the pyrenes and keels on the faces; pyrenes pale, 1/2-ellipsoid, 5 mm. long, 3.2 mm. wide, 1.8 mm. thick, with 2 close ventral grooves.. Seeds thin, concavo-convex, 5 mm. long, 4.1 mm. wide, 1.2 mm. thick, keeled dorsally near the base.
