Characteristics

Shrub of unknown habit, probably only a few m. tall but possibly slightly scandent; older stems pale greyish, younger blackish, all glabrous.. Leaf-blades elliptic to oblanceolate, 3–17 cm. long, 1.2–5 cm. wide, shortly distinctly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrous, discolorous; petiole short, 0.2–2.5(–4) cm. long, scarcely separable from the decurrent leaf-base; stipules transverse with single central apiculum, 1.5–2 mm. long.. Flowers in rather few-flowered subsessile or shortly pedunculate subcapitate inflorescences; peduncles and secondary peduncles up to 5 mm. long; pedicels obsolete; bracts linear, 1.2–1.3 cm. long.. Calyx glabrous; tube ovoid-oblong, 1 mm. long; lobes linear, (1.5–)3–5 mm. long, 0.5–0.8 mm. wide, narrowed at the base.. Buds conspicuously winged.. Corolla white shaded with purple and yellow; tube 1–1.2 cm. long; lobes triangular, 2.5 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, winged outside.. Anthers just completely exserted in short-styled flowers.. Style 5.5 mm. long and stigma-lobes 2.5 mm. long in short-styled flowers.. Fruits white, globose, 5 mm. in diameter, ribbed, mostly crowned with the persistent calyx-lobes; pyrenes pale, 1/2-ovoid, 5 mm. long, 3.6 mm. wide, 3 mm. thick, with very strong dorsal keel..
