Cheilolejeunea convexa (S.W.Arnell) S.W.Arnell

Species

Bryophytes > Porellales > Lejeuneaceae > Cheilolejeunea

Characteristics

Monoicous, yellowish green. Stem to 15 mm long, 90 µ wide, cortical cells 20 x 30 µ, rather thick-walled. Lobes of leaves orbicular, very concave, apex frequently inflexed and subacute. Marginal cells 16 µ, cells in the centre of the lobes 20-30 µ, walls thick, trigones large, formed by the swollen middle lamella. Oil bodies 1-2 per cell, 2-10 x 14-18 µ, compound. Lobule large, inflated, keel strongly arched, free margin incurved. Amphigastria small, concave, spreading from the stem, of the same width as the stem or twice as wide, insertion line straight, bilobed to 1/3-1/2, lobes obtuse-subacute, sinus wide, obtuse-acute. Female organs on short branches, usually with two innovations. Bracts concave, 1/2 as long as the perianth, obtuse. Bracteole 1/2 as long as the perianth, incised to 1 1/3, lobes obtuse, sinus acute. Perianth pyriform, 5-plicate, ± compressed, plicae high and sharp, with small incrassate cells, decurrent to the base. Rostrum short, about 30 µ long. Spores pale green, oval, 30-40 x 60-70 µ, densely papillose, when young frequently with papillae in groups. Elaters pale yellow, 16 µ wide. Androecium in lateral branches, bracts in 3-4 pairs, very concave, loosely imbricate.
