Species

Bryophytes > Porellales > Lejeuneaceae > Cheilolejeunea

Characteristics

Monoicous, up to 2 cm long, diameter 50-60 µ, cortical cells 20 x 20-22 µ. Leaves imbricate, lobe subsymmetrical, suborbicular, slightly concave, margins entire, apex rounded, ± inflexed, 0.36-0.56 x 0-32-0.46 mm. Lobule 1/5-1/3 as long as the lobe, 0.12-0.14 x 0.1 mm, inflated, keel straight or weekly arched, apex with a tooth 1 cell long and a distal slime papilla. Marginal cells of the lobe 8-12 µ, cells in centre of lobe 12 x 12-16 x 24 µ, basal cells 15-24 x 30 µ, walls slightly incrassate, trigones distinct, sometimes intermediar thickenings. Oil bodies 4 x 4-6 µ, compound (large drops). Amphigastria distant, 2-3 times as broad as the stem, subcuneate-suborbicular, bilobed to 1/3, lobes subacute, sinus acute, insertion line slightly arched. Androecia usually on short lateral branches, with 2-4 pairs of bracts and a basal amphigastrium, sometimes also intercalary androecia. Female inflorescences on short branches. Female bracts of about the same size as the leaves, lobule elliptical, with apex rounded or subacute. Bracteole 1/3-2/3 as long as the bracts, bilobed to 1/5. Perianth pyriform or obcordate, longer than the bracts, inflated, dorsal face almost flat with a very shallow keel, lateral margins somewhat crenulate in the upper portion, ventral face generally inflated and biangled, or especially when young, weekly keeled towards the apex. Rostrum 30-40 µ in diameter, 20-60 µ long, margin of mouth entire.
