Rhizome horizontal, extensive, moniliform, occasionally branched, carrying the fibrous remains of old leaf-bases; roots thin and wiry, with whitish subglobose tubers, 1–3 cm. long.. Leaves distichous, erect to falcate, often canaliculate, sometimes finely undulate, linear to narrowly lanceolate, firm, 10–40 cm. long, 4–20 mm. wide, margins and often midribs as well ciliate; leaf-bases and cataphylls blotched with greenish brown to brownish red spots or bands.. Peduncles upright or geniculately curved (arcuate) at the base, angled, glabrous to shortly hairy below, densely papillate to pubescent above.. Inflorescence a short, 3–13 cm. long, simple raceme; rhachis angled, pubescent, sometimes sinuate, scabrid to pubescent; floral bracts lanceolate, cuspidate, ciliate on the margins, lowermost up to 7 mm. long.. Pedicels suberect, articulated near the middle or in the lower half to near base, ± papillate, 3.5–10 mm. long in fruit, 1–3-nate at the lower nodes.. Flowers white, star-shaped; tepals patent, (6–)8–11 mm. long, 2–4 mm. wide, 3(–5)-veined, with a greenish brown stripe on the outside.. Stamens equal to shorter than the tepals; filaments filiform to fusiform, glabrous, 3–6 mm. long; anthers 2–5 mm. long, twistedafter anthesis.. Style straight, slightly longer than the stamens.. Capsule deeply triquetrous, smooth to slightly transversely ridged, 4–5 mm. long, 5–7 mm. wide, emarginate.. Seeds saucer-shaped to flat, 2–3 mm. in diameter.
