Plants small, grass-like, clumped, 15–25 cm. high.. Rhizome slender, moniliform; roots thin, wiry, with distal tubers 1–2 cm. long.. Leaves ± distichous, filiform with expanded bases, often with ciliate margin, up to 35 cm. long, 1–2(–3) mm. wide; cataphylls membranous.. Peduncle short, often arcuate below and ± prostrate, without leaves, glabrous, or slightly hairy in lower parts, 1–2(–4) cm. long.. Inflorescence a branched panicle, 6–20 cm. long, sometimes prostrate; floral bracts minute, glabrous, up to 3 mm. long.. Pedicels articulated at or slightly below the middle, 4–7 mm. long, 2–3-nate at the lower nodes.. Perianth open, whitish to yellowish, with green or brownish dorsal stripe or tip; tepals 5–8 mm. long, 2–3 mm. wide, 3-veined.. Stamens slightly shorter than the perianth; filaments filiform, ± 4 mm. long and longer than the ± 2.5 mm. long anthers.. Style straight.. Capsule 2–4 mm. long, somewhat broader than long, covered in remains of the perianth, subglobose, slightly ridged, emarginate, rounded-deltate in cross-section..
