Characteristics

Rhizome moniliform, carrying short fibrous remnants from older leaves; roots wiry, shortly branched, bearing small tubers (up to 1 cm. long) mainly on the lateral root-branches.. Leaves ± distichous, glabrous, narrowly lanceolate, petiolate, up to 16 cm. long and 1(–2) cm. wide.. Peduncle only 1–2 cm. long, prostrate.. Inflorescence, up to 15 cm. long, lying flat on the ground, simple or with one basal branch, lax, with elongated internodes; rhachis scabrid to pubescent; floral bracts up to 5 mm., sometimes ciliate.. Pedicels articulated in lower half, 6–9 mm. at anthesis, elongating slightly in fruit, 2-nate at the lower nodes.. Perianth open, white; tepals 5–7 mm. long, less than 2 mm. wide, 3-veined.. Stamens shorter than the tepals; filaments fusiform, scabrid, 4 mm. long, anthers 1–1.5 mm. long.. Style straight, slightly shorter than the stamens.. Capsule ± 4 mm. long.. Seeds not known.
