Plants 10–30 cm. high.. Rhizome short, vertical, moniliform; roots medium thick with distal tubers.. Leaves drying blackish, rosulate, glabrous, ± petiolate, lanceolate, clasping at the base, broadest at the middle, 10–40 cm. long, 2–5 cm. wide.. Peduncle terete, often with a single bract below the inflorescence, glabrous, 1–3(–6) cm. long.. Inflorescence unbranched, occasionally with a single appressed branch at the base, dense, up to 10 cm. long; rhachis subterete, shallowly angled, glabrous; floral bracts lanceolate, glabrous, up to 4 cm. long.. Pedicels articulated at the apex, ± 2 mm. long in flower, up to 6 mm. long in fruit, 2–4-nate at the lower nodes.. Perianth whitish to greenish; tepals 5–7 mm. long, 3–5-veined.. Stamens as long as the perianth; anthers 2.5–3 mm. long; filaments filiform, ± 7 mm. long.. Capsule deeply triquetrous, 6–7 mm. long, ± 5.5 mm. wide.. Seeds saucer-shaped, ± 1.5 mm. in diameter.
