Characteristics

Climber; root-tubers present; stem jointed, 8-sided, with 4 broad green faces alternating with 4 much narrower (± 1–1.7 mm.) planar intermediate whitish grey faces, usually green but sometimes purplish maroon in young stems; internodes 3–13 cm. long, 0.4–1 cm. wide, nodes usually slightly constricted, a transverse band of fibres present below each intermediate face in addition to fibre bundles associated with the vascular bundles; stomata very close and evident on wide faces in dry state.. Leaves either shallowly or deeply 3-lobed, green or faintly maroon coloured especially along margins, 2–5 cm. long, 2–6 cm. wide, glabrous, slightly hirsute on both surfaces, thin (± 0.5 mm.), flexible and can be folded completely in two without snapping, veins cream, bulging on lower surface; petiole ±1–5 cm. long.. Inflorescence glabrous.. Flowers yellowish green, sometimes pinkish outside, 3–4 mm. long, 1.7–2 mm. wide, tepals sometimes faintly maroon.. Fruits smooth, ovoid.
