Characteristics

Climber or creeper to 1.5 m.; stems slender, pale, ridged and striate when dry, glabrous; tendrils simple or rarely bifid.. Leaves not succulent, 3-foliolate; median leaflet narrowly elliptic, narrowly oblong or lanceolate, 3.5–12 cm. long, 1–3.5 cm. wide, acute at the apex, narrowly cuneate at the base, the laterals asymmetrically obliquely lanceolate to ovate, 2–9.5 cm. long, 0.7–3 cm. wide, acute, asymmetrically broadly cuneate at the base, sometimes ± lobed at base on outer side, all sharply toothed at the margins, glabrous; petiole 1–4.5 cm. long; median petiolules 0–5 mm. long but appearing longer due to very narrow cuneation of blade; lateral petiolules usually obsolete or up to 2 mm. long; stipules oblong, 3 mm. long, 2 mm. wide, bilobed at the base.. Flowers in terminal and axillary lax cymes 1.5–7 cm. long, of 2–6 umbelliform elements; peduncle 1–3 cm. long; secondary axes 0.2–1 cm. long; pedicels crimson, 3–5 mm. long, scurfy-pubescent, lengthening in fruit to 8 mm. and thickening.. Calyx crimson, cupular, 1 mm. tall, 2.5 mm. wide, entire, glabrous.. Corolla greenish yellow, often tipped pinkish red; buds ovoid, obtuse; petals ovate, 2 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, glabrous.. Fruit red, ellipsoid, 8–12 mm. long, 5–7 mm. wide.. Seed straw-coloured, ellipsoid, 7–8 mm. long, 4–5.5 mm. wide, 4 mm. thick, slightly keeled, smooth.
