Leaves (3–)5-foliolate, 7–35 cm. long; rhachis broadly winged, narrowly obovate or elliptic, 15–35 mm. broad; lateral leaflets opposite, sessile to subsessile, broadly lanceolate, broadest in the middle and narrowing towards the apex and base, 2.5–14.5 cm. long, 1.2–6 cm. broad, acute or subacute at the apex, cuneate at the base, coarsely serrate, glabrous, coriaceous, terminal leaflet often the largest; spines 1.2–5.5 cm. long, (0–)1–2 in each leaf axil, straight, robust.. Inflorescence of small racemes or clusters borne on short lateral branches or from sessile buds on leafless branches of the previous year.. Flowers greenish white to cream, 4-merous; pedicels 2–5 mm. long, glabrous.. Sepals slightly united at the base, ovate, 1–2(–4) mm. long, glabrous..
