Leaves 6–13 cm. long, alternate, imparipinnate; petiole 0·8–2·5 cm. long, winged or sometimes wingless; rhachis winged with wings 1–4 (6) mm. broad on each side at the apex and gradually narrowing from the distal extremity downwards; leaflets opposite, 2–4-jugate, sessile or subsessile; lamina 2–4·5 (6·5) × 0·7–2·5 cm., narrowly elliptic to elliptic, ovate or obovate, greyish-pubescent on both surfaces, glabrescent, densely dotted with pellucid glands, obtuse or rounded at the apex, margin crenulate, cuneate at the base; lateral nerves 5–7 pairs; spines (0) 1–2, 1–3 cm. long, borne in the axils of the leaves, straight, robust.
A shrub or small tree. It has many stems. It grows 6 m tall. The bark is grey. The young branches have a dense woolly covering. There are slender, rigid green thorns in the axils of leaves. They are 1-3 cm long. The leaves have leaflets along the talk and one at the end. The leaves are 4-6 cm long. They have a citrus smell when crushed. The leaf stalk has wings. The leaflets are narrow and 2-5 cm long by 2-3 cm wide. They are green with fine grey hairs. The flowers are in an unbranched spray. The fruit is a round berry with a rough skin. They are red-brown when ripe. They are 1.5 cm across. They are edible but sticky.
Stamens 8, free, inserted at the base of an annular disk, flattened towards the base, subulate, shorter than the petals; anthers dorsifixed, 2-lobed at the base, laterally dehiscent.
Inflorescence of small racemes or clusters borne on short lateral branches or from sessile buds on leafless branches of the previous year.
