Dioicous, pale green, when old dark brown, flaccid. Stem to 3 cm long, about 200 µ in diameter, green-brownish, cortical cells about 30 x 60 µ, thin walled. Leaves rounded, somewhat concave, suberect, dorsal margin decurrent, ventral margin generally exceeding the stem, insertion line ending with an arched U-formed curvature, margin entire. Marginal cells about 20 x 30 µ, inner cells 30-40 µ, basal cells up to 40 x 30 µ, trigones small-medium sized. Amphigastria large, free or with the margin on one side reaching the dorsal margin of one of the adjoining leaves, not wider than the stem, ovate-lanceolate, bilobated to 1/4-1/3, lobes subacute, sometimes with a few obtuse small teeth on the lateral side of the margin. Oil bodies 2-3 per cell, globose-ovate, 4 x 4-6 x 14 µ, composed of small drops, slightly brownish-coIourless. Female organ apical, sometimes innovations below the sterile organ. Female bracts in 2-3 pairs, larger than the leaves, roundedly rectangular, apex emarginate and with margins reflexed, one of the inner bracts usually shortly bilobed with acute lobes, inner bracts smaller, rounded, basally connate with each another and the inner bracteole. Inner bracteole small, bilobed to 1/4, second bracteole twice larger than the amphigastria, bilobed to 1/4. Perianth large, generally 3 times as long as the bracts, clavato-campanulate, base tricarinate, apex triplicate, mouth truncate, trilobate, lobes rounded, undulate, incurved, entire or emarginate, postical lobe seldom bidentate or bilobate. Sporogone oblongo-globose, valves 4-stratose, about 40 µ thick. Spores brown, slightly punctate, 16-20 µ. Elaters bispirate, 8-12 µ broad. Androecia terminal or intercalar. Bracts with lobule saccate, papillato-dentate. Antheridia single, pedicle biseriate. Gemmae not observed.
