Woody vine, 0.5-6.0 m high; branches shallowly 4-sulcate, glabrous. Leaflets papery, ovate to rhombic, base cuneate to broadly so, apex acute or attenuate, margins usually 2-or 3-lobed, dentate, upper surface glabrous, lower surface sparsely pubescent. Inflorescences axillary cymes, 3(4)-flowered. Flowers musk-scented. Tepals cream-coloured, narrowly ovate, inside densely appressed-puberulous, outside glabrous, margins velutinous. Filaments linear, pubescent near base. Anthers narrowly oblong, (1.0-)2.0-2.4 mm long. Ovaries puberulous. Styles ± 10 mm long, densely villous. Flowering time July. Fruit ovoid achenes, pubescent, reddish brown, margins tan; persistent styles up to 40 mm long, plumose.
