Shrub or rarely a tree, 3-5(-10) m tall, resprouting from roots, with stringy bark on old stems and shortly hairy and aromatic bark on young stems. Leaves trifoliolate, leaflets narrowly lanceolate, 15-25 mm long, densely hairy, margins strongly revolute, tip pungent. Male flowers: stamens 6; female flowers: receptacle 3-angled in cross section, 3 mm long, ribbed.
