Characteristics

Frutex. Rami et ramuli cortice atro-pubescente praediti; ramuli abbreviati 3-5 mm longi dense foliati. Folia 3-foliolata; vagina 3-10 mm longa amplectens breviter pilosula scariosa, stipulis 0.4-0.8 mm longis anguste triangularibus acutis junioribus albo-ciliatis; foliola 1.5-3.5 mm longa 0.5-1 mm lata lanceolata-spathulato-lanceolata obtusa integra vel minutissime serrulata crassiuscula, nervo mediano et nervis lateralibus subtus prominentibus. Flores [male] ignoti. Flores [female] in axillis foliorum solitarii; bracteolae 2-2.5 mm longae amplectentes acutae-subacutae scariosae glabrae; receptaculum obovoideum ad 2.5 mm longum 1.2 mm crassum leviter costatum brunneum subnitidum; sepala et stylus ignota. Species insufficiently known.

Perennial shrub, 0.3-1.5 m high; stems and branches densely pilose with short, spreading, dark-coloured hairs. Leaves densely fascicled, 3-foliolate; leaflets similar, elliptic, 2-4 mm long, green, often with 2 pale stripes on either side of midrib beneath; juvenile leaves toothed. Inflorescence: bracteoles with ciliate margins. Flowers solitary in axils of undifferentiated leaves; sepals 4, glabrous. Female flowers: sepals ovate, 0.9-1.4 x 0.4-0.7 mm, recurved; receptacle ± prominently ridged, ovoid-oblong; carpels 1 or 2; stigma 0.9-1.3 mm long, red, feathery and hidden by leaves. Flowering time Nov.-May. Fruit an achene, glabrous, ribbed.

Leaves sessile; trifoliolate; blade elliptic, leaflets narrowly elliptic, 1.9-4.3 x 0.61.3 mm, apex acute, margins entire, flat; glabrous. Flowers: solitary in axils of undifferentiated leaves; sepals 4; brownish; Nov.-May.
