Characteristics

Leaves about a dozen, lorate, very obtuse, bright green, not narrowed below the middle, 1-1 1/2 ft. long, 1 1/4-1 1/2 in. broad, firm in texture, scabrous on the margin; peduncle ancipitous, about a foot long; flowers often 40-60 in an umbel; pedicels 1/2-1 in. long; spathe-valves several, unequal, lanceolate, greenish; perianth reddish-yellow, curved; tube infundibuliform, 1/4-1/3 in. long; segments oblanceolate, tipped with green, 3/4-11/4 in. long, 1/4-1/3 in. broad; stamens a little exserted; anthers oblong, yellow, 1/12 in. long; ovary globose, 1/8 in. diam.; style finally a little longer than the stamens.

Flowers ± 30-40, in a dense cluster, ± tubular, pendulous, on lax, green pedicels; perianth 20-30 mm long, pale to dark orange or orange-red, tipped pale to dark green. Flowering time July-Dec. Fruit a reddish berry; seeds turgid, ± globose, ± 9 mm in diam.
