Shrub or tree to 8 m or more tall, sometimes epiphytic; sap white; twigs stout or slender, sometimes drying dark. Leaves small, 4-6(-10) cm long, 2-3(-6) cm wide, obovate or elliptical, the venation mostly obscure, slightly ascending, some-times with numerous fine, strongly ascending lineolate markings, in many spec-imens only the terminal 1-2 pairs of leaves persisting, discolorous, the margins slightly revolute, stiffly coriaceous, apically rounded, basally cuneate, sessile or the petiole only 2-5 mm long. Inflorescence a short, congested terminal cymose panicle, bracts foliaceous, about half as long as the leaves, bracteoles scale-like, 2-10 mm long. Flowers (fide Standley) white, sepals rotund with broad mem-branaceous margins, 9 mm long, petals ca. 6, to 1.5 cm long, rotund, the margins minutely serrate, pale on drying; stamens numerous, strongly unequal, the an-thers linear, 3 mm long. Fruits turbinoid, ca. 1 cm long, the styles basally con-nivent then divergent, ca. 3 mm high, stigmas minute, ca. 1 mm long.
