Characteristics

Perennial shrub or dwarf shrub, 0.15-3.00 m high; stems slender, woody, considerably branched; twigs ascending, glabrous. Leaves sessile, coriaceous, opaque, lanceolate or narrowly obovate-lanceolate, base gradually narrowed, apex obtuse but mucronulate, margins scabrous and distinctly revolute; glabrous on both surfaces. Male flowers: few-flowered glomerules; sepals obovate, obtuse, 3-lobate basal scale; petals widely obovate, cuneately unguiculate; base 2-glandular. Female flowers solitary; sepals elliptic-lanceolate, larger than male, basal scale 3-lobate; petals oblong-obovate, eglandular; ovary glabrous; styles free. Flowering time Aug.-Nov. Fruit a subglobose capsule. Seeds black and shining.
