Characteristics

Male flowers: pedicels c. 2 mm long; sepals c. 2 × 1 mm, elliptic-obovate, rounded at the apex, convex, greenish, each with 3 unequal clavate glands near the base; petals c. 2 × 1.5 mm, rhombic, cream-coloured, each with a solitary rhomboid gland at the base; staminal column 1.5 mm high, free filaments 0.75 mm long, anthers 0.5 mm long, white; pistillode 0.75 mm high, cylindric, peltate-capitate above.

Leaf blades 0.5–3 × 0.5–2 cm, suborbicular to broadly ovate, obtuse or rounded at the apex, cordate, with entire cartilaginous slightly revolute margins, firmly chartaceous to subcoriaceous, pellucid-punctate; midrib prominent above and beneath, lateral nerves in 4–8 pairs, not prominent.
Fruits solitary on pedicels 4–5 mm long; fruiting sepals 2.5 × 1.5 mm, each with a flattened obovate or bifid gland at the base, otherwise as in the male; petals 2 × 1 mm, spathulate, eglandular.
Stems sparingly branched, closely beset with longitudinal usually centrally punctate tubercles, greenish.
Seeds c. 3 × 2.5 × 2 mm, minutely puncate; caruncle 1× 1.5 mm, yellowish-brown.
Male fascicles few-flowered; bracts minute, numerous, imbricate, scaly, pallid.
Leaves numerous and closely spaced, often imbricate, evergreen.
Petioles up to 1 mm long, or leaves subsessile.
A glabrous shrub up to 2 m high, dioecious.
Fruits 5 × 5 mm, rugulose, olivaceous.
