Characteristics

Perennial shrub, 0.5-2.0 m high, erect; much branched; twigs spreading, sharply angular. Leaves firmly membranous, opaque, lanceolate-oblong; obtuse, margins flat; petioles distinct, puberulous. Male flowers: pedicels slender; sepals obovate-oblong, obtuse, basal scale 5-7-lobate; petals rounded spathulate, glabrous, eglandular; rudimentary ovary short, glabrous, cylindric, truncate and slightly dilated at tip. Female flowers: pedicels rigid; sepals as in male, but basal scale 1-4-lobate; petals as in male; ovary glabrous, smooth. Flowering time Aug.-Nov. Seeds small, black and shining.
