Characteristics

Perennial shrub, 0.15-0.70 m high; stems slender, woody, much branched; twigs spreading, glabrous. Leaves sessile, coriaceous, opaque, lanceolate, base rounded, apex obtuse but mucronulate, margins slightly scabrous; glabrous on both surfaces. Male flowers in few-flowered glomerules; sepals obovate, obtuse, basal scale 3-lobate, petals widely obovate, cuneately unguiculate; base 2-glandular; ovary rudimentary, turbinate, glabrous. Female flowers solitary; sepals elliptic-lanceolate, larger than male, basal scale 3-lobate; petals oblong-obovate, eglandular; ovary glabrous; styles free. Flowering time Aug.-Jan. Fruit a subglobose capsule. Seeds black and shining.
