Characteristics

Perennial shrub, 0.5-1.2 m high; twigs spreading, angular. Leaves shortly petioled, firmly papery, obovate, base gradually cuneate, apex acute, margins flat, spreading; densely grey-pubescent on both surfaces; petioles 2.0-2.5 mm long. Male flowers 1-3; pedicels short, hoary pubescent; sepals densely pubescent, ovate-oblong, basal scale 7-9-lobate; petals distinctly clawed, rhomboid, sparingly hairy externally, with minute gland; rudimentary ovary cylindric, sparingly hairy throughout. Female flowers solitary; sepals ovate-oblong, basal scale simple; petals oblong, externally pubescent, 2-lobed basal scale; ovary tomentose; styles short. Fruit a capsule, sparingly shortly tomentose. Seeds black and shining.
