Characteristics

Perennial shrub, 0.2-1.2 m high; stems slender, woody, much branched; twigs spreading, glabrous. Leaves sessile, thinly coriaceous, opaque, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, base cuneate, apex obtuse but mucronulate, margins not scabrous, revolute; glabrous on both surfaces. Male flowers: in 2-or 3-flowered glomerules; pedicels slender, glabrous; sepals oblong-obovate, obtuse, basal scale glands 3 or 4; petals obovate, cuneate and base 2-glandular; rudimentary ovary turbinate, glabrous. Female flowers solitary; pedicels as in male; sepals ovate-lanceolate, with large 2-4-lobate basal scale; petals cuneate-obovate, eglandular; ovary glabrous; styles free. Flowering time May-Dec. Fruit a subglobose capsule. Seeds black and shining.
