Characteristics

Bush or small tree 1.5–3.5 m. tall; very young branches glabrous to puberulous, covered with light rusty-brown to maroon-brown shiny bark, becoming pale greyish and dull with age.. Leaf-blades elliptic to broadly elliptic, 3–4.8 cm. long, 1.5–7 cm. wide, acute to subacuminate or occasionally obtuse at apex, acute or sometimes slightly attenuated at base, subcoriaceous, dull above; lateral nerves apparent and tertiary nerves obscure to apparent on both faces; domatia well marked or less often small, ciliate to pubescent; petiole 2–6 mm. long; stipule-limbs triangular, shortly aristate, 2–4 mm. long altogether.. Flowers (5–)6–8-merous, usually individually borne in the axils of the upper leaves (often including the apical axil), 1–2(–5) per axil; inflorescence-stalks 2–6 mm. long; upper bracteoles cupular or with free lobes; lower bracteoles ± 1–2 mm. long, cupular, sometimes slightly lobed; scale-like bracteoles present or sometimes absent.. Calyx-limb much shorter than the disc.. Corolla-tube 0.7–1.2 cm. long, 3–7 mm. wide at throat; lobes oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 1–1.4 cm. long, 5–7 mm. wide, rounded.. Style-arms up to 6 mm. long, scarcely divergent.. Fruit 8–11 mm. long, 4–5.5 mm. wide, distinctly beaked (constricted at apex into bottle-neck shape); stalk lengthening to 1 cm..
