Glabrous bush or small tree 2–5 m. tall; young branches covered with shiny buff, usually dark spotted bark, often with transverse cracks.. Leaf-blades elliptic to broadly elliptic, 6–12.2 cm. long, 2.5–5.6 cm. wide, acuminate at apex, acute at base, papery to subcoriaceous, slightly to moderately shiny above; lateral and tertiary nerves raised on both faces; domatia sparsely pubescent to pubescent; petiole 0.5–1 cm. long; stipule-limbs triangular, 2–3 mm. long, acute or truncate, then with an arista not exceeding 1 mm.. Flowers 5-merous in 1–2 single-flowered inflorescences per axil (total inflorescence-stalks 0.8–1 cm. long) or with fascicles of 2–7 flowers; peduncle ± 2(–7 in fruit) mm. long, often with an additional common segment present, terminating in pedicels 3–4 mm. long; bracteoles cupular, the lower ones sometimes with rudimentary lobes; small scale-like bracteoles present on pedicel.. Calyx-limb not exceeding disc.. Corolla-tube 0.6–1 cm. long, 4 mm. wide at throat; lobes oblong, 1–1.1 cm. long, 0.3–0.5 cm. wide, rounded.. Fruit greenish with rose striations, becoming black when mature, 7–9 mm. long, 6–8 mm. wide; stipe lengthening to 9 mm.. Seeds 6 mm. long, 4 mm. wide.
