Leaves opposite or subopposite (rarely alternate or pseudo-verticillate); lamina 2·5–14 x 1–8 cm., subcoriaceous to papyraceous, narrowly to broadly elliptic or oblong-elliptic or obovate, usually shortly and rather bluntly acuminate at the apex and cuneate to rounded at the base, glabrous to fairly densely pubescent especially on the nerves below and often with tufts of hairs in the axils of the lateral nerves below, punctulate above, reddish-or golden-or silvery-lepidote below, scales usually not contiguous; lateral nerves 4–10 pairs, rather prominent below, slightly so above; petiole 2·5–20 mm. long.
Small tree up to 9–12(20) m. tall or shrub, sometimes with sarmentose branches, or climber; crown rounded to flat-rounded; bark creamy-brown to grey, rough and very closely and shallowly fissured or smooth; branchlets tomentellous to pubescent, glabrescent.
Fruit 1·5–2·5 cm. in diam., subcircular to transversely broadly elliptic in outline, rufous-or golden-lepidote otherwise glabrous or nearly so, apical peg 0·5–2·5 mm. long, wings 6–10 mm. broad, stipe 1·5–3 mm. long articulated almost at the rhachis.
Inflorescences 5–15 cm. long, of terminal panicles of spikes with lateral spikes, often unbranched, in the axils of the upper leaves; rhachis tomentellous and sparsely lepidote; bracteoles 1–3 x 0·3–0·6 mm., caducous.
Disk 2–5·5 mm. in diam., glabrous, with notches where the filaments are inserted, without distinct free margin.
Lower receptacle 2·5–6 x 0·3–1 mm. and, like the upper receptacle, rufous-lepidote otherwise glabrous.
Sepals 2–2·5 x 1·5–2 mm., ovate-triangular, lepidote but otherwise glabrous.
Cotyledons 2 with petioles 5–6 mm. long, borne above soil level.
Stamen-filaments 1·5–2·5 mm. long; anthers 0·4–0·8 mm. long.
Flowers yellow or cream or whitish, sweet-scented, sessile.
Scales 150–300µ in diam. (as in the sectional description).
Petals 1·5–2·5 x 0·3 mm., linear-elliptic, glabrous.
Style 1·5–2·8 mm. long, glabrous.
