Characteristics

Semi-scandent shrub or ?tree.. Leaves opposite; lamina papyraceous, oblong-elliptic, up to 15 cm. long and 6 cm. wide (possibly longer and 7 cm. wide according to one leaf fragment), apex acuminate, base cordate, glabrous except for the scales, densely lepidote; scales golden-reddish, not contiguous; lateral nerves 8–14, rather prominent beneath; petiole ± 5 mm. long.. Inflorescence axillary, simple or compound, ± 1.5 cm. long, hemispherical in outline; peduncle up to 1 cm. long, densely lepidote.. Flowers yellowish, fragrant.. Lower receptacle ± 2 mm. long; upper receptacle infundibuliform, 5–6 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, densely lepidote but otherwise glabrous.. Sepals deltate.. Petals elliptic, 1.5 mm. long, 0.8 mm. wide, clawed, shortly ciliate.. Stamen-filaments ± 4.5 mm. long; anthers 0.5 mm. long.. Disk inconspicuous.. Style 8 mm. long.. Fruit not seen.. Scales (fig. 2/23, p. 13) as for other members of the section.
