Leaves mainly borne on non-spinose lateral shoots, opposite or subopposite; lamina papyraceous, elliptic to ovate-elliptic, 2–4.5 cm. long, 1–2.5 cm. wide, apex very shortly and bluntly acuminate, base cuneate, shortly pilose above, more sparsely beneath, sometimes only on the nerves beneath and slightly tufted in the axils of the lateral nerves, sparsely scattered golden lepidote beneath; lateral nerves 3–5(–7) pairs; petiole 2–5 mm. long, densely rufous and golden lepidote, sparsely hairy.. Inflorescence ± 3 cm. long, of 1–2 single spikes in the axils of leaves on spur shoots, spikes often forming a terminal panicle by the suppression of the upper leaves.. Flowers white.. Lower and upper receptacles rufous to golden lepidote, otherwise glabrous.. Sepals triangular.. Petals narrowly oblanceolate, 1.5–2 mm. long, 0.3 mm. wide, glabrous.. Stamen-filaments 2.5 mm. long; anthers 0.25 mm. long.. Disk 1.5–2 mm. in diameter, margin tomentose.. Style 2.5 mm. long.. Fruit (fig. 4/3, p. 15) oblong in outline, 1.7–2 cm. long, 1.5 cm. wide, golden lepidote, otherwise glabrous or nearly so; apical peg absent or very short; wings 5 mm. broad; stipe ± 2 mm. long..
