Characteristics

Leaves opposite; lamina 5–9 x 2·5–5 cm., papyraceous to chartaceous, obovate-elliptic or narrowly elliptic, rather inconspicuously lepidote otherwise nearly glabrous except for tufts of hairs in the axils of the lateral nerves beneath, apex blunt to acute and slightly acuminate, base cuneate; lateral nerves 5–7 pairs; petiole up to 12 mm. long, slender.

Fruit brownish-or yellowish-green or green, up to 5·5 x 4–5 cm., subcircular to elliptic in outline, lepidote otherwise glabrous, apical peg absent or very short, not decurrent at the base, wings 1·5–2 cm. broad and rather thin, stipe up to 2·5(3) cm. long, slender.
Lower receptacle 3 mm. long, lepidote otherwise glabrous; upper receptacle 3·5–4 x 2·5–3 mm., infundibuliform, lepidote otherwise glabrous.
Inflorescences of short axillary subcapitate spikes up to 2·5 cm. long; rhachis glabrous; bracts not seen; peduncle up to 1 cm. long.
Cotyledons 2, transversely elliptic, 3–3·5 x 5·5 cm., petioles 2–4 mm. long, arising above soil level.
Liane climbing to 15 m.; stems up to 15 cm. in diam.; bark grey to silvery, rough and flaky.
Petals 1·2–2 x 0·8–1–5 mm., obovate to subcircular, unguiculate, glabrous.
Stamen-filaments 3–5 mm. long; anthers 1–1·5 mm. long.
Style 6 mm. long, slightly expanded at the apex.
Disk with a pilose margin free for 1 mm.
Sepals 0·5 mm. long, acuminate.
