Characteristics

Lower receptacle c. 3 mm. long, very densely sericeous-pilose; upper receptacle up to 12 mm. long, 2–2·5 mm. wide at the base and up to 4 mm. wide at the apex, tubular to infundibuliform, sericeous-pilose, scarcely constricted but somewhat expanded at the apex.

Fruit up to 4·5 x 4 cm., subcircular to oblong in outline, densely pubescent and with black stipitate glands up to 0·8 mm. long, apical peg absent, wings c. 10 mm. broad, chartaceous, decurrent into the stipe, stipe up to 5 mm. long.
Leaves opposite; lamina 4–5 x 2·5 cm., ovate, tomentose, acuminate at the apex, cordate at the base; lateral nerves 6–7 pairs; petiole 1 mm. long.
Inflorescences of dense abbreviated subsessile lateral spikes up to 2·5 cm. long; rhachis coarsely tomentose with black stipitate glands.
Sepals up to 4-·5 mm. long, very narrowly triangular, with black stipitate glands (sometimes sparse) up to 0·8 mm. long.
Scrambler or shrub up to c. 1·2 m. high, leafless when flowering; branchlets coarsely tomentose when young.
Petals 4–5 x 1·5 mm., narrowly elliptic, densely pilose, not exceeding the sepals.
Stamen-filaments 14–20 mm. long; anthers orange-red, 0·9–1·1 mm. long.
Disk rather fleshy, 2 mm. in diam., margin pilose, not free.
Flowers pink to reddish-yellow.
Style 18–20 mm. long.
