Leaves opposite or subopposite; lamina 10–20 x 5·5–11·5 cm., papyraceous, elliptic to obovate-elliptic, almost glabrous above except for pubescence on the midrib and lateral nerves, densely fulvous-pubescent to fulvous-tomentose beneath especially when young, apex acuminate, base subcordate; lateral nerves 7–10(16) pairs; petiole up to 15 mm. long often forming a spine.
A woody climber. It grows 6 m tall. The branches are rounded and hairy. The leaves are opposite. They are oval and 15-20 cm long by 8 cm wide. They are hairy underneath. The fruit are oblong and 3 cm long by 2.5 cm wide. They have 5 rounded angles.
Fruit 2–4·5 x 1·2–2·5 cm., 5-angled, ellipsoid to obovoid-ellipsoid with apex sometimes slightly acuminate, glabrous, subsessile or very shortly stipitate.
Lower receptacle 4·5–5·5 mm. long, constricted above the ovary, sericeous; upper receptacle 2–4 x 3–4 mm., campanulate, appressed-pubescent.
Inflorescences of subcapitate spikes or racemes 3–6 cm. long (including the peduncle); rhachis fulvous-pubescent.
Flowers sessile or sometimes very shortly pedicellate, cream to pink or maroon or crimson, sweet-scented.
Petals 1·5–2·5 x 0·9–1·1 mm., obovate-oblong, hairy on the outside especially on the margins.
Stamen-filaments 3·5–4(6) mm. long; anthers 1 mm. long, slightly apiculate.
Disk 2 mm. in diam. with a pilose scarcely free margin.
Style 4·5–5 mm. long, exserted before the stamens.
Woody climber, branchlets fulvous-tomentose.
Sepals little developed, broadly triangular.
