Characteristics

Small tree; branches mouse-grey; branchlets reddish brown, lightly pubescent.. Leaves opposite; lamina elliptic, up to 8 cm. long, 3.5 cm. wide, apex shortly obtuse-acuminate, base cuneate, pustulate, glabrous except for the sparse scales and pubescent domatia in the nerve-axils; midrib prominent beneath; lateral nerves 5–6 pairs; petiole up to 9 mm. long, slender.. Inflorescences solitary axillary spikes 5–10 cm. long.. Flowers yellow.. Lower receptacle 3 mm. long, lightly pubescent to moderately densely rufous pubescent; upper receptacle 5 mm. long, infundibuliform below for 3 mm., then widening rather abruptly to a 3 mm. broad campanulate crown, sparsely pubescent.. Sepals deltate, 0.7 mm. long.. Petals obtriangular, 0.8 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, emarginate.. Stamen-filaments 4 mm. long; anthers 0.9 mm. long.. Disk with pilose margin free for 1 mm.. Fruit (fig. 4/9, p. 15) ovate in outline, 3 cm. long, 2.5 cm. wide; body hoary with a few scattered red scales; wings firm and copper-brown; apical peg absent; stipe ± 10 mm. long, slender.. Scales (fig. 1/9, p. 12) ± 120 μ in diameter.
