A loosely branched straggling shrub up to 3 m. tall, usually branching at ground-level, the main stems up to 13 cm. in diameter at the base; bark grey, hardly peeling; young twigs ± pubescent, pale brownish yellow, longitudinally ridged, slender, 0.6–1.1 mm. in diameter.. Leaves always 3-foliolate, ± pubescent, the hairs longer and rather fulvous at the base of the petiole and leaflets; petiole length 25–100% of that of terminal leaflet; leaflet-margins with numerous well-developed crenate teeth.. Flowers appearing with the young leaves, both sexes sessile, crowded among linear pilose bracts at the leaf-bases.. Male: calyx pilose ± 1.5 mm. long including 0.6 mm. ovate-triangular lobes; petals linear-lanceolate, ± 4 mm. long, appressed-pilose outside; filaments 2.5 and 1.3 mm., anthers 0.9 and 0.6 mm. long.
