Unarmed little-branched shrub or small tree 1–3 m. tall; main stems with a dark green under-bark, the outer layers peeling in yellowish or dull orange sheets; slash creamy white, smooth; exudate sparse, colourless and odourless; young branches very thick, 5–15 mm. in diameter, strongly fluted, glabrous or sparsely puberulous, yellowish green or brownish at first, later grey, often beset with old persistent petioles.. Leaves glabrous or very sparsely puberulous, up to 29 cm. long, including a petiole up to 8 cm. and a terminal leaflet up to 9 cm. on a petiolule up to 1.5 cm. long, (5–)7–9(–11)-foliolate; leaflets thin in texture, entire or dentate, with 5–6 principal lateral veins prominent beneath on each side, (20–)40–80 mm. long, 15–45 mm. wide, rounded or truncate and often oblique below, on petiolules 1–3 mm. long, acute or acuminate apically.. Flowers dark red appearing with the young leaves.. Male flowers in slender erect pale purplish puberulous panicles, (10–) 15–30 cm. long including the 4–8 cm. peduncle, side-branches up to 20(–45) mm. long; bracts narrowly triangular, up to 4 mm. long; pedicels 5–15 mm. long, often with very minute glands among the normal short indumentum; receptacle and calyx pubescent; receptacle obconical, ± 1.2 mm. deep, 1 mm. wide; calyx-tube ± 1.2 mm., lobes ovate-triangular, 1.4 mm. long; petals glabrous, linear, recurved, 4–5 mm.; filaments 5.5 and 4.0 mm.; anthers 1.5 and 1.0 mm. long.. Female racemes puberulous, 2–12 cm. long including a 1–6 cm. peduncle; pedicels 3–10 mm.; petals 4 mm.; staminodes 1.5 mm.; ovary and style ± 2 mm. long.. Fruit glabrous, glossy, turgid, up to 26 × 22 × (10 + 11) mm.; pericarp 2-valved, very succulent, ± 5 mm. thick; pseudaril a basal cup extended on one side as a single very large lobe right to the top of the sterile locule; stone smooth, asymmetrically ovoid, 15 × 11 × (5 + 6) mm., the extraordinary empty thin-walled sterile locule larger above than below, over-topping the fertile locule..
