Characteristics

Low shrub to 75 cm tall when in flower, c. 15 cm tall when vegetative. Leaves dense at base of scape; petiole terete, 2.8-8.8 cm long; lamina linear, 4-10 cm long, 2-5.5 mm wide, glabrous to velutinous; midvein and margins thickened. Inflorescence a few-branched panicle with flowers in dense, terminal spikes; peduncle 30-75 cm long, sparsely long-white-hairy; bracteoles lanceolate, 4.5-6 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, creamy brown, white-velutinous, ciliate. Perianth blue, long-silky-hairy; tube 2-6 mm long; upper lip 2-2.25 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide with an acute, recurved apex; lower lip united for 1-1.5 mm; lobes 1.5-2 mm long, 0.25-0.5 mm wide, ciliate; apex acute, twisted. Nut 2.1-2.6 mm long, 1.6-2.2 mm wide, cream, rusty red-tomentose; circumference hairs 0.5-1 mm long, cream to reddish brown; central tuft lacking but with scattered, long hairs.
