Dense shrub to 3 m high. Branches stout, minutely puberulous when young. Leaves opposite, not fetid when bruised; lamina obovate to elliptic or sometimes almost lanceolate, 2–7 cm long, 1–3.5 cm wide, attenuate onto petiole, with slightly recurved margins, obtuse to rounded (sometimes slightly notched) apex, glossy, bright green; venation obscure above, evident below, 4 primary veins on each side of midrib with domatia pits in their axils; petiole 4–12 mm long, finely puberulous; stipules triangular, 1–1.5 (–3) mm long. Flowers in leaf axils, c. 8 mm long, green. Calyx obscure. Corolla 3–4 mm long, green. Male flowers in clusters of 3–8; filaments c. 4 mm long; anthers 2–2.5 mm long. Female flowers solitary or paired; stigmatic arms 6–8 mm long. Fruit slightly obovoid, 6–7 mm long, green.
Mainly in coastal lowlands (but with some plants growing on edge of the Little Pocket at 600 m alt.), more common in calcarenite soils; in sunny locations (Department of Environment and Climate Change (NSW) 2007: Appendices p. 137).
