Characteristics

Robust shrub up to c. 2 m. tall; branches stout, divaricate; branchlets subtetragonous, stiff, coarsely pubescent. Lvs sts fascicled, on pubescent petioles c. 1 mm. long. Stipules triangular, acute to subacute, pubescent. Lamina coriac., glab., broad-ovate to suborbicular to broadly ovate-oblong, obtuse, subtruncate at base, 5-9 × 5-7 mm.; margins thickened. Midrib and principal secondary veins evident below. Fls solitary or 2-3 together on short branchlets. ♂ without calyx; corolla short, broadly campanulate, lobes slightly > tube, broad-ovate, acute. ♀ with funnelform corolla; lobes triangular, acute, much < tube. Drupe didymous, dark red, c.3 × 4·5 mm.
