Characteristics

Annual herb with decumbent and ascending branches to 60 cm; stems pilose.. Leaves ovate, elliptic to oblong, 2.5–6.6 cm long, 1.4–2.6 cm wide, margins serrate, ciliate, usually with a pair of basal setae 0.2–3 mm long, cuneate or rounded at base, acute or rounded, pilose especially on midrib and veins above and beneath; petioles 0.4–1.1(–2.5) cm long, pilose; stipules 0.4–1 cm long, pilose.. Inflorescences of pedunculate cymes of up to 6 flowers; peduncles up to 3 mm, contorted, pilose; pedicels up to 5 mm, contorted, pilose; bracts up to 0.6 mm long, pilose.. Sepals 5, 4.3–6.3 mm long, 1–1.5 mm wide, pilose on dorsal side.. Petals 5, yellow or orange, 4.3–6.5 mm long, 2–3.8 mm wide, obovate, with a sparsely ciliate claw at base; stamens ∞, to 5.3 mm long; anthers pitted; ovary cylindric, pilose, 1 mm long, 0.7 mm wide.. Capsule solitary or in 2s or 3s, cylindric, constricted between the seeds, straight or slightly curved, 0.6–1.6 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, splitting into 5 valves, shortly pubescent, ending in 5 spreading horns..
