Characteristics

Perennial woody herb to 1 m; stems densely stellate-tomentose when young, becoming glabrous.. Leaves ovate, narrowly elliptic to narrowly oblong, 2–6.7 cm long, 0.7–3.6 cm wide, margins dentate to sinuate, rounded at the base, acute to rounded to sub-emarginate at apex, stellate-pubescent to stellate-tomentose above, densely stellate-tomentose beneath; petioles 0.5–1.8 cm long, stellate-tomentose; stipules 2 mm long, stellate-tomentose.. Inflorescences of 1–3(–4)-flowered fascicles; pedicels 5–6 mm long, stellate-tomentose; bracts to 1.5 mm long, stellate-tomentose.. Sepals 5, 9–11 mm long, 2–3 mm wide, dorsal surface covered with stellate hairs.. Petals 5, with slightly ciliate claw at base, 6.5–11 mm long, 3–6 mm wide; stamens ∞, up to 7 mm long; ovary cylindric, tomentose, 2.5–3 mm long, 1.2–1.5 mm wide.. Capsule solitary or in pairs, straight or slightly curved, 0.8–1.4 cm long, 0.4–0.5 cm wide, splitting into 3 cristate-winged valves, stellate-tomentose; seeds angular, 1.8–2.2 mm long, striate, dark brown..
