Characteristics

Annual, occasionally perennial herb, 0.15-0.50 m high; ± woody base, stems slightly ribbed. Leaves up to 32 x 7 mm, narrowly linear to lanceolate-elliptic, shortly aristate, margins revolute. Inflorescences compound with 2, 3 or additional accessory flowers at a node, pedicellate or subsessile; peduncles up to 79 mm long. Calyx: tube ± 1.3 mm long, obovate-subglobose; lobes narrowly triangular. Corolla: tube up to 9.4 mm long; lobes white above, mauve-striped beneath (variously coloured from cream to brownish and red), ± narrowly ovate-triangular; throat slightly papillose. Style and stigma together as long as narrow tube. Flowering time summer. Fruit subglobose, glabrous or slightly scabrid capsules, up to 2.5 x 3.3 mm. Seeds brownish, ± 0.4 mm long, round-subconic.
