Characteristics

Leaf cordate to round, 15–35 × 15–35 mm, dark green above, slightly reddish beneath. Flower nodding on a stalk 1–2 mm long, 26–30 × 8–10 mm, dark purplish red with whitish areas on labellum, sometimes obscurely striped. Dorsal sepal dark reddish purple, elliptical when flattened, 25–28 × 10–13 mm, curved, appearing inflated, much longer than labellum. Lateral sepals 2–2.5 mm long. Petals c. 0.5 mm long. Labellum translucent white or yellowish with red suffusions, mostly hidden by dorsal sepal; labellum tube c. 4 mm long; margins sharply recurved, with very few bristly hairs; labellum lamina elliptic in front view, 10–12 × 5–6 mm. Spurs c. 3 mm long, curved close to ovary. Column c. 4 mm long.

Widespread, but disjunct, sometimes locally common. Found growing on slopes in moist to humid gullies in tall forest in freely draining, gravelly loam; also on rainforest margins and in shallow soil on escarpments.
