Large to massive, solitary, hapaxanthic, bisexual palms. Trunk erect, closely ringed with leaf scars. Leaves costapalmate, with induplicate segments; sheath with marginal fibres; petiole massive, with caducous indumentum, deeply channelled adaxially, with numerous sharp marginal teeth, with central triangular cleft at base; adaxial hastula present; leaf blade regularly divided into single-fold segments; segments shallowly divided along abaxial folds, linear to lanceolate, tapered to apex, with veins and veinlets prominent, and caducous floccose indumentum along folds. Inflorescence compound, suprafoliar, composed of numerous inflorescences branched to 3 or 4 orders; prophylls on first order branches tubular; peduncular bracts tubular. Flowers borne in spirally arranged shortly stalked sympodial clusters; calyx tubular, with 3 triangular lobes; petals spreading, with basal margins imbricate; stamens 6; ovary globose. Fruit globose, with basal stigmatic remains. Seed globose, shallowly grooved.
